Transport

Here's an interesting tidbit from the RedEye:

Cab fares rise today

Taxi cab fares increase Wednesday under a measure approved by Chicago's City Council in April.

The initial charge, or "flag pull," rises to $2.25 from $1.90, and the charge per mile increases to $1.80 from $1.60. The fee for the first additional passenger doubles to $1, but the charge for additional passengers remains at 50 cents each.

"For drivers it means an increase in revenues to help offset the cost of gas," said Bill McCaffrey, spokesman for the Department of Consumer Services. "For passengers, it means cleaner and better maintained cabs and much improved service for disabled passengers."

I take cabs when I can't depend on public transport to get me to where I want to go. It is still cheaper to take a cab in most cases than it is to own a car, it won't really change how often I use them.

How much does it cost to take a cab in other cities? Is this considered really expensive?

PS to Lily - I have a French press, actually. I don't like the coffee it makes anymore.
