Book Quiz

I got this "quiz" from Nyssa who got it from Jim. It saves me from having to come up with my own topic tonight, and is generally a fun project.

You're stuck inside Fahrenheit 451, which book do you want to save?

Just one? Probably "Fahrenheit 451"

Have you ever had a crush on a fictional character?

I'm afraid I'm just not that much of a geek.

The last book you bought is?
"Man's Search for Meaning" by Viktor E. Frankl

What are you currently reading?
"Man's Search for Meaning" by Viktor E. Frankl
"Ein Tag im Jahr" by Christa Wolf

Five books you would take to a deserted island.

This just isn't a fair question! I have a lot of books, and I can't imagine being forced to live without a single one. But since it's just a game:

"The Portable Nietzsche" - a wonderful compact edition of some of Friedrich Nietzsche's best stuff in German and English. This is brain candy. Something for when I feel like being deep.

"The Collected Short Stories of W. Sommerset Maugham" - This is fun stuff.

"Kindheitsmuster" (A Model Childhood) by Christa Wolf - This book is structurally and linquistically amazing. It also serves to remind me that it could be worse.

"There's A Monster at the End of this Book" - Grover - Literary comfort food from my childhood.

Runner Up: Der Zauberberg (Magic Mountain) by Thomas Mann. I've never EVER been able to finish this book because it is so incredibly dreary and verbose. I used to get assigned this book on a yearly basis, and I always dreaded it. That was, of course, Until I discovered that Cliff Notes had an edition of this book! It is a really long book, and would probably take me a lifetime to finish

Same quiz, but answered by Binky, my 13 year old niece.

You're stuck inside Fahrenheit 451, which book do you want to save?
"The Thief Lord" (Author unknown to her. Actually she doesn't care who the author is, she just likes the book. Also, she thinks Fahrenheit 451 sounds like a dumb story.)

Have you ever had a crush on a fictional character?

Ummmmmmm... nope.

The last book you bought is?
"Stormbreaker" (again, author unknown)

What are you currently reading?
"Point Blank" - sequal to Stormbreaker.

Five books you would take to a deserted island.

"The Thief Lord", "Harry Potter" #3,4+5, "Ella Enchanted"

I would probably bring my copy of War and Peace. Due to the vagaries of international shipping and sea freight, it's probably been to more countries than me, and it's never been read yet. I keep thinking that my next trip will allow the time to devote to it, and I never do. I did decide against bringing it to Kansas, though, as it struck me as I'd be living the real thing at the time and didn't need to read about it during downtime.

Other than that, I just couldn't pick -- it's impossible.

Damn. I'm such a non-reader. I can't even remember the last book I actually bought, since all my friends seem to be nice enough to buy books for me. However, I get major crushes on fictional characters, because I cast all the parts of the books I read like they were movies. Then again, I guess that just means I'm crushing on the actor.

In a fit of self-delusion (convinced I was deeper than I actually am) I purchased 'The Portable Nietzsche'. The book sits, mostly unread, somewhere in storage. I refuse to pitch it or donated it, because I am wrongly convinced that I will eventually read it.
