Happy Thanksgiving

This Thanksgiving is the first one ever that I didn't spend doing anything special or particular. I saw no family, ate no traditional foods and didn't watch one bit of football. I expected to be a little depressed about this, but strangely, I'm ok. I had a dinner guest tonight, and I did some cooking, sure, but it wasn't anything special.

I spent most of the day sleeping - I guess I just haven't been getting enough sleep. I went to bed last night at around 11, and my sister woke me up at 9 when she called. That's 10 hours. I almost NEVER sleep that much. 6 to 7 hours is usually about right.

I was still in a fog after our short conversation, so I sat in front of the TV for two hours watching two different networks' renditions of the Macy's Day Parade. I don't think I've watched this thing since Underdog was the showstopper. You know what balloon surprised me? Barney. What the hell is HE doing back? I thought he was passé now. That innane purple piece of polyanna crap. I was glad to see Big Bird is still there, and it is always good to see Arthur. It was supposed to be a year of retro floats and balloons, but the only one I saw that really fit that description was the short, bald banker guy from Monopoly.

After the parade, I took a break from my exhausting day and took a four-hour nap. I woke up in time to start cooking dinner for my guest. Now it is close to midnight, and I am W I R E D. I think I have just given myself instant jetlag without leaving my home.

Since I have the time and energy to "wax philosophical", perhaps now would be a good time to list the things I'm thankful for. Ready?

Belgium, Germany and Austria - for all the chocolate
My friends and family
My job - it may suck sometimes, but I'm damn lucky to be getting paid on a regular basis.
Health insurance - I'd probably be dead now if I hadn't had any this fall
Animal lovers
Good Semaritans, especially the guy who returned my purse, unscathed, this summer when I stupidly left it behind on the train.
The Condo and its furnace
All the people who will vote out Drinky McDumbass in 11 months - come on, people, I'm counting on you!
The Bill of Rights - what's left of it.
The Boca company - for making protein-rich tasty vegetarian stuff
All of my favorite musicians
Federal holidays

That seems like a short list, doesn't it? ALthough, I guess I could be like this thankless creature. Rather than to thank her god and lucky stars that she had the good fortune to switch shifts on September 11, 2001, so that she wasn't on United Airlines flight 93 when it was taken over by hijackers, she decided to be greedy and try to collect workers comp for post-traumatic stress disorder. Talk about an opportunist!
