I promised you a recipe for Oatmeal Raisin Cookies when I finished perfecting it. I am going to give you a recipe, but it isn't perfect. It is damned good though. It is not much different from the one I got from Joe's mother. I just added less oatmeal to make a less granola-esque cookie, cut out some of the sugar, because the first batch was too sweet, and added some spices. Here goes:
3/4 cup vegetable shortening
3/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1/3 cup granulated sugar
1 egg
1/4 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 1/2 cups oats, uncooked
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 cup raisins
Preheat oven to 350. Beat together shortening, sugars, egg, water and vanilla until creamy. Add remaining ingredients; mix well. Drop by rounded teaspoonfulls onto a greased cookie sheet. Bake for 12-15 minutes.
Enjoy!
