Monkey See, Monkey Do.
I so don't feel like doing my job today. I've been surfing allowable pages and found this on Flipsycab's page. I've been meaning to answer it since the first time I read it, and now that I'm just blowing off a day, this is the perfect time to answer this little questionnaire about my senior year in high school:
What year was it? 1987
What were your three favorite bands or musical artists? Adam Ant, David Bowie, and Squeeze. There were more, but the question only asks for three.
What was your favorite outfit? Probably the ultra tight Calvin Klein cords (in magenta), and the extra long stripey button-down shirt. Worn, of course, with the cords tucked into my socks, which matched the shirt exactly. I wore these thin black leather ankle boots all the time. I also had a green Izod Lacoste sweater that I wore to death.
What was up with your hair? Very large, very permed, with a shoelace as a bow. Sometimes I would do the Aimee Mann and braid one strand of my hair in the front. I was stunning, honestly.
Who were your best friends? Bari, Yvonne, Marise, Chantal, Sylvia, Melanie, Cindy, Doris, Joan, Therese, Scott, Dave, Steve, and Gene. Oh, and Gary from work.
Where did you work? I worked at Kapular Marketing Research doing telephone surveys for NBC. In the summers I also worked concessions at the drive-in movies.
Did you take the bus? Sometimes. I was sharing a car with my brother (1967 Mustang, a rust-bucket in brown primer until he fixed it up and painted it cherry red. I wasn't allowed to drive it anymore after it was fixed up.) Sometimes I got driven to school by friends, and sometimes I walked.
Who did you have a crush on? You mean aside from Adam Ant? Tom, for sure, because he dressed up as Adam Ant for Halloween. Scott, but I dated him, so I don't know if he counts. Then there were Steve V., who died, and Bernard, my lab partner in chemistry.
Did you fight with your parents? Senior year? No, not so much. My father had already died, and my mother was doing her own thing.
Who did you have a CELEBRITY crush on? Adam Ant, Paul McCartney, and Scott Baio.
Did you smoke cigarettes? Tobacco? No.
Did you lug all of your books around in your backpack because you were too nervous to find your locker? No, no, don't be silly. Maybe this quiz was supposed to be about Freshman year? Anyhow, I had far too many books to carry around, and wearing a backpack was about as cool as bringing a lunchbox.
Did you have a 'clique'? I hung out with the theater geeks, band fags, the women's soccer team, and the international students. I've never been one to have a clique of my own, I always just flitted about.
Did you have "The Max" like Zach Kelly and Slater? I don't know who Zach Kelly and Slater are, but judging by other people's answers, I'm supposed to name a hangout. Nikos - a gyro place across from the school, and Dairy Queen.
Admit it, were you popular? I had a lot of friends, but I wasn't one of the Heathers, no.
Who did you want to be just like? I don't remember really - I probably just wanted to be a prettier, smarter, richer, thinner, funnier version of myself. Isn't that what all 17 year-olds want?
What did you want to be when you grew up? Mrs. Adam Ant. I had also recently heard of "international business," and it sounded good to me, although I'm not sure what I thought it meant. I went on to major in several languages.
Where did you think you'd be at the age you are now? Dead. 35 is old, man.

Okay, even if you didn't put the year, I'd know what it was. But that's okay, I thought the 80s were grand....
Just think, if you'd have become Mrs Ant, you'd now be getting involved in bar fights with him and running when they threw things.
Bet
