Apple - iPod shuffle

Ok, so I am on line reading the manual to the iPod, and I see an add for their new $99 iPod Shuffle. I'd never heard of this before, so I click the ad to read about it.

The product turns out to be a not very interesting version of every smaller MP3 Player on the market. But that's not why I'm blogging this.

This blog was prompted by the fine print at the bottom of the page.

1. Music capacity is based on 4 minutes per song and 128Kbps AAC encoding.
2. Do not eat iPod shuffle.
3. Rechargeable batteries have a limited number of charge cycles and may eventually need to be replaced. Battery life and number of charge cycles vary by use and settings. See www.apple.com/batteries for more information.
4. Some computers require either the optional iPod shuffle Dock or a USB cable extender (sold separately).

I've seen stupid warnings before, but this one takes the cake.

Now, that's not an actual, edible cake, you understand... that's just a saying.

I think it's a blessing in disguise. If you can quote back item number 2 to them if something goes wrong with the shuffle, it means you really did read the fine print the first time so they have to help you.

I really think it's the tech writers having fun. I used to have to edit really, really long boring pieces for publication, and there were times that I was tempted to put some really interesting stuff in the middle just to see if anyone would notice. ("Help! I'm being held prisoner and forced to diagram sentences by the dark forces! Send lawyer, guns and money...") I never did it, but there was one guy who used to actually read all the way through and would call me about word choices in part 17. I kind of miss that guy now -- he was....a character.

"Do not eat I-Pod shuffle"

Well, Apple's stated intent is to bring high technology to the masses in a fashionnable and attractive package. Along the way, I am sure a few morons are bound to think it's all so pretty that it's edible.
