Dave the Real Estate Agent made good on his promise and took me to see a condo tonight. Actually, I had planned to see four properties, but in the span of a day three of the four went under contract. Naturally they were the three I was most excited about.
The building is in a nice area that is in the process of getting nicer. I walked around the block a few times to get a feel for things. Dave met me - he was a few minutes late, but not nearly as late as the seller's agent. He was 25 minutes late. So there we waited, in the freezing cold. Another buyer came with HER agent, and the four of us stood around making awkward conversation until the guy showed up. The building is in great shape. There are only 11 units in the building, it is very clean. The monthly fees are a little steep, but for that I get cable TV and Internet.
The unit was in great shape - newer windows, speakers built into the ceiling of every room, jacuzzi bath tub, two bedrooms.. wonderful... except that the kitchen is only 11x8 and has no counterspace. There is also no dining room. So I couldn't take the place. It was disappointing.
I got a chance to chat with David though, and he was really nice for a change, and gave me some information on buying, selling and the real estate market as well. Unfortunately, I also had to open MY big trap and tell him some things I probably shouldn't have - like about my financial situation. I didn't tell him what I was approved for, but I told him I could be flexible with the price, or that I am in no particular hurry to move right now. I mean, I'm all freaked about not being taken seriously and not getting the attention from real estate agents that I think I should be getting, and I go and make it easier to be ignored!
And that's today's Condo buying update.
