Honey, I'm HOME!

Just back from NJ, where my brother lives with his little family. It was a nice, but exhausting visit. I'm sure that when I'm more awake, I'll have something to say on the subject.

Right now I just kind of miss my cuddly nephew and his sweet, but raging hormone of a sister. They're great kids. Watching them come to terms with the world, from discovering their own feet and learning to crawl, to developing preferences, and learning to read, write and function in society fascinates me to no end. I adore them not only because they are, but because they are good people.

The odd part of all of this is that the niece, who is the oldest child of either of my siblings, is 11, and I still can't get over the fact that this person - this humanbeing is the product of a sibling of mine. Needless to say, I'm having a downright existential crisis over her younger brother and their even younger cousin. I know it's all simple reproduction, but it blows my mind. I look into the face of someone who resembles my mother strongly, but has my sister-in-law's green eyes and think how did you get here? Someday I guess my mind will grasp the concept of generations and growing up and life going on, but until then, I am going to be profoundly impressed by everything these kids say and do.
