San Miguel - Day Three
Day three was a Saturday, and that meant Sqwali didn't have to go to school. After a leisurely morning of breakfasting and reading and chatting with her folks, we set out to walk around and do some serious shopping. While we were on our walk, we encountered this little guy. He wasn't hitched to anything and there wasn't anyone around who seemed to know him. He was ultra loving and tried to eat my hair. Unfortunately, Sqwali wouldn't let me take him on our walk. There is a picture of me with this horsie I think, in her camera.
This, by the way, is Sqwali...
... and this is an abuelita. There are lots of elderly women out and about in this exact pose. I found out the hard way that you are supposed to leave a coin in the outstretched hand, but that you aren't supposed to look at the person you are giving the money to. We also saw children selling gum and begging for money. And when I say "children," I mean CHILDREN. 5 year-olds with big, beautiful brown eyes. They are good at what they do, too. I know kids can be persistent, but I've never seen anything like this. The odd thing is that we didn't see any men. Here in Chicago, I see more men out-begging than women by far.
This is another shot of the Parroquia...
...and so is this. From what I was told, the back of the cathedral is built in typical Mexican style because the designer, who got his idea for the style from picture postcards, didn't know how to build the back, since the post cards don't show the backs of buildings.
This is a restaurant, I believe, and has the coolest sign, don't you think?
Day four pictures coming up tomorrow.

That is el perfecto rendering of the word grito, in my opinion.
El Grito = The Shout/Scream
Or Crying Out, it can also mean that too.
You know, I'm really digging on these pictures. And the horsie was a good one. You can be just like in "The Lady Eve," and get your hair eaten by a horse!
You seem to take better pictures with your Canon than I do, btw. What's your secret?
