Wonder of Wonders Miracle of Miracles....

Month six in the condo, and already I've had to have the washing machine fixed, it took forever to get the phone connected, and last week the phone lines to the condo were cut, leaving me phoneless for several days. I'm saving up funds to replace the crappy window treatments and to paint the walls. The other day, it was brought to my attention that water from pipes leading from MY precious condo was leaking into the basement. Of course I know nothing of pipes, plumbing, plumbers ... gah! I was completely dumbfounded when my neighbor was explaining everything to me.

I was so very lucky that this neighbor knew about these things. In fact, he found a plumber and since he isn't currently working, he stayed home so that he could let the guy into my apartment.

Not only did the plumber show up after having been called one day before, but he found the problem immediately (improperly installed seal on the toilet - eeewwww) fixed it, and did it all for a very reasonable price. In fact, it was so reasonable, the President of the association decided to pick up the tab.

"Why is this such a big deal?, " I hear you ask. I have to admit, sometimes being the "big woman on her own" is a bit daunting. Being a homeowner is a lot more work than I thought - I didn't think everything would have to be fixed right away. I figured I'd have time to figure stuff out. Unfortunately, this is not how it works. I've had to learn things as they pop up out of nowhere.

In fact, regular reading of Bet's blog, is teaching me that owning a home is much like living in a haunted house: just when you least expect it, bad, ugly stuff will jump out at you, and nothing is as it seems at first glance.

So having someone know what to do, and the be willing to take the responsibility to do it - well , it was simply amazing. It was also a brilliant reminder that not all people suck.

How appropriate for this to have happened during Chauncey, the celebration of a great miracle, eh?
