Today after work, I went to the hardware store. Last time I was at the hardware store, I got hit on shamelessly -- so you can imagine why I like to go there. Unfortunately, the hardware store I went to today was all business. Nobody really gave a damn that I was in there. So be it. I managed to make some purchases for the new home:
- a 25 inch telephone cable so that I don't have to sit at my desk when I'm online for a long period of time. I prefer to sit on the couch in the study, because the chair I have at the desk is a kitchen chair. My kitchen chairs were made by Amish people, who evidently like really hard, wooden surfaces that numb your ass.
- a sanding sponge - this is a groovy alternative to actual sandpaper. It doesn't eat up your hands, stays usable for much longer, and can be washed.
- spackle
- a putty knife
- a wax furniture crayon.
Then I rushed home to play "new home owner doing home improvements". Let me tell you, it was great fun. First I used the wax pencil to color in all the knicks and scratches the damned movers put on my dressers. That went quickly, and I am very pleased with the results. You can no longer tell that some big apes mauled my furniture.
Then I spackled the guest room and a couple of spots in the living room. Why didn't anyone ever tell me that spackle is so much fun?! You get to schmear it in the holes and pack it all in, smooth it out and then let it dry. Then I let it dry a bit, and gave it a second coat. Woo! Tomorrow I am going to sand. And then?
This weekend I am going to touch up the living room. I am going to refer to this project as "Painting Lite" or "Painting Practice". The Former Owner left me the paint he used for the living room, so that will be a easy job. I only have to touch up part of one wall.
The real painting job is in the study, which I have decided, is going to be yellow. I haven't bought the paint yet, but I might do that this weekend. I have to prep the walls anyhow. As far as I understand, they have to be washed down. That makes sence, I guess.
I hope the painting is as exciting as the anticipation of painting. Of course I am going to have to figure out this whole "taping" thing. I know you are supposed to tape up stuff, but I can't for the life of me decide what needs to be taped. The trim, which is going to stay white, perhaps?
I was going to put a link in here tonight about Drinky's admission that he told a big fat lie, followed by the gleeful chant, "IM PEACH HIM! IM PEACH HIM"! But I decided against it.
