Did I really not blog on Tuesday? I could have SWORN I'd written something about the groovy time I had at work. But I guess not.

Last night I didn't blog because I went to a concert. A Peter, Paul and Mary concert. Joe won free tickets, and invited Gloria and ME! The whole set up of the concert is cool - it is at a place called Ravinia, where, in the middle of the ultra-posh suburbs, they have a park with a stage. You can buy lawn seats or pavilion seats. If you choose the pavilion seats, you will actually see the band, you get a chair, and it is like a regular show, except that the pavilion has no back or side walls, and is below grade level.

The much cooler way to see a show at this place is to get you some lawn seats, which just what we got. But do do this right you need to get there early so that you can find "just the right place" to park yourself and your buddies, and you need to bring a picnic. A couple of bottles of wine is also a good thing to bring with. And for goodness sakes, don't forget your corkscrew! I've seen some lavish setups though, like people who bring candles for their foldup table, low-sitting beach chairs with insulated cupholders, a sleeping bag for the young children to snooze under the stars. Some of the food can be gourmet, but some settle for the gourmand and bring buckets of KFC.

Our picnic was very basic, but a lovely picnic it was - 2 kinds of cheese (dill gruyère and La Vache Qui Rit), crackers, french bread, banannas, apples, plums, chocolate and gummi worms. Oh, yes, and two bottles of red wine, one French and the other .... I don't know what the other bottle was, because I didn't buy it. We also had a bottle of water, but what do you know? It never got opened.

The show started promptly at 8, and the peace, love and anti hate/war statements began. It was really amazing to see those three, all in their late 60s at least, still get up there and sing their hearts out. The boys are mostly bald, but Mary is still platinum blonde. Peter's voice is getting a tad bit shaky, as you can hear during Puff (yes, they sang Puff!!) but otherwise, they sound fantastic. Near the middle of the show, I was beginning to suspect lipsynching, when suddenly, out of nowhere, Mary stops a song 30 seconds into it, and asks the guys to start over because "her teeth got stuck around her lips". That Mary reads minds!

It was a really good place to be, that show last night. The air was warm, but not hot, the wine was cool, and I was in a crowd of former hippies who'd brought their children and grandchildren along to experience follk music. They sang some new songs, but they also did Where have all the Flower's Gone? and Blowing in the Wind and talked a lot about the evils of war, and how we needed to take care of ourselves, and not become militant or wide-eyed in the face of the government. They talked a lot about peace and love though, and they also did a song for Matthew Shepard's parents called Jesus on the Wire that was beautiful enough to bring even me to tears.

There were sing-a-longs and updates on the group and their families (Mary has two cats, a dog and a very tall husband in her queen-sized bed with her every night, for example, and Paul's daughter goes to Folk festivals to scout out new songs for her dad's group to sing), and there was a very entertaining little girl sitting just to the left of our blanket. She was maybe 8, and you could tell that she was brought up in the name of Flower Power. She was wearing sunburst socks, tiny sandles and the cutest little dress. She knew the words to many of the songs and danced around to all of them. She was so cute in fact, that she ended up getting most of the gummi worms.

The train ride home was fun - because everyone on the train had been at Ravinia, so there were singalongs and people were all very silly and feeling the love.

Today at work I am a little more than fuzzy, but I think if I wouldn't have blurted out that I was kind of out of it 30 million times, I might have gotten away with it. *sigh*
