I Don't Talk Funny!
Stenns comes through with another MEME, which means I've got something to blog about. If you like the MEME, copy the questions on your own blog and play along.
1. Soda, Soft Drink, Soda Pop or Tonic - It's "soda" accept no substitutes. "Pop" is a person and Tonic goes with gin.
2. Hoagie, Sub, Po Boy, Grinder - I say "sub". However, in jr. high we had Po'Boys on the menu.
3. Goobers or Peanuts - Peanuts, unless you mean the candy. I don't think these two are the same thing at all.
4. Candlepin or Ten-Pin bowling - I agree with Stenns. "Wha?" I just say "bowling".
5. Dungarees or Blue Jeans - Jeans
6. Shopping Carriage, Shopping Cart, Buggy - Neither. I say "wagon."
7. Frappe or Milkshake -These are different bevergages. When I think "Frappe" I think coffee and I think Greece. Milkshake or Malted would have been a better question, no?
8. Jimmies or Sprinkles - Sprinkles
9. Hot Dog or Frankfurter - I grew up calling them "franks" but I refer to them as Hot Dogs now. Of course the brand I buy these is called "Not Dogs".
10. Relative or Kin - Relative
11. Soda Crackers or Saltines - Crackers - I don't use the word "soda" in front though.
12. Rubbish, Trash or Garbage - Trash
13. Rotary or Traffic Circle - Neither. I say roundabout.
14. Barbeque, Grill Out or Cookout - Barbeque
15. Funnel Cake or Fried Dough - Elephant Ears
16. Flapjacks, pancakes, or griddlecakes - Pancakes
17. Bedroom Suite or Bedroom Suit -Confusing. Are we talking hotels here? I usually just refer to the bedroom.
18. Bundles, Sacks or Bags (of Groceries) - Bag
19. Front Entrance or Front Stoop - The stoop is outside, the entrance is the door.
20. Frying Pan or Skillet - Frying pan
1 Comments:
this one is a bit too regional I find. Most of these are 1 term that maybe 14 people in Alabama use versus what everyone else in the US uses.
