PromoGuy's Monday Mission 3.04

1. Do you care for poetry? Do you have a favorite poem? Care to share some of it? I have to be in the mood for poetry that isn't set to music. I guess I prefer prose writing. Joe wrote some great Haikus about the 147 bus here in Chicago, but I can't seem to find them. Maybe if he reads this, he can post a haiku or two in the comments. Don't hold your breath though - he isn't a regular reader.

2. What does it take to "rock your world?" The Wall of Sound

3. Have you ever done anything that landed you in financial trouble? Has somebody else's action ever caused you financial ruin? What happened? Well, there was that whole "going to college thing" that put me several thousand dollars in debt. But I really wouldn't consider that financial ruin. I am pretty careful with money, because I've seen financial ruin, and it ain't pretty. The way I look at it is so: I have to take care of myself, and I don't really have the choice of irresponsibility and financial ruin, because when the fun is over, I'll just have to clean up the mess.

4. Take a stroll down memory lane. There is a song, that every time you hear it, you think of this one person. What's the song, who is the person, and what memories does it conjure up? There are many, many of these. Here are a few:

Was ist mit mir los? --- Vladomir "Falko" Staunushev
Killing me softly (Fugees) -- Romeo
I've got the Power --- Paul
Eine Kleine Nachtmusik - Sanja

The above list are people that I knew and loved when I lived in Austria. These songs, as tacky as they are, remind me of some very good times.

Showing Out (Mel and Kim, remember that song?) and Don't Go Breaking my Heart ---- Julia

I met Julia right away as an undergrad during New Student Days and we're still friends now. The first song was used by us as a study aid in German 102 to memorize prepositions that go with certain verbs. We dubbed our version of the song, "schauen auf" Song #2 is simply our song. We both love Elton John and I think the first or second time we ever drank together, we got completely blotto and sang this duet over and over and over and over again to a record - to the strange delight of many.

Honey --- Bet, Stennie, Mike and Chrispy. Could there ever BE a crappier song?

5. I've never cared for football, it was never on in the house growing up and I never developed a "taste" for it. But I've always felt like I "should" enjoy it, that I was deficient in some way because I never get excited about things like the Super Bowl (except for the commercials). Are there any occasions when you feel like you are missing out on something that everyone else seems to enjoy? This is an existential question. I'll give you the example that occured most recently. It was while watching the film Adaptation. People were chuckling and I couldn't figure out why. I think I finally decided they were all stoned.

6. A few of the phrases that get under my skin are "take it to the next level" (which was used when I was told why I was being replaced at Fox by someone who could do that) and "you just don't get it" (always popular in relationship fights). What phrases "push your buttons" and why? "The long and the short of it is..." I never quite understood why people use that.

7. Do you believe in life after death? You asked me this last year, and I still don't haven't made a decision about that.
