House Hunting -- Official Day One
Today I called the mortgage broker recommended to me by David the Real Estate Agent. It was painless enough. He asked me a few questions about my income and debts, and then told me he'd be sending my preapproval application in the mail. I am kind of disapppointed with this. I thought he'd be able to tell me how much a bank might lend me while talking to me over the phone. It looks like I am going to have to dig up my old W2 forms and tax returns. That worries me, because I did my taxes over the phone a few times - no paperwork required there. I suppose I should wait and see what is actually asked of me on the application before I start to have a melt-down over it.
When I checked my email just now, David had sent me some listings. Out of five, I agreed to see two. I used to live down the street from one of the buildings he recommended. It is a townhouse that was once (recently) the scene of some horrible crimes. It is also carpeted and has cement flooring underneath. It is exactly what I told David I am not interested in. I hope he just sent it to me because it was a three bedroom that cost well below what I was looking to spend.
The two I am looking forward to seeing fit the bill on paper. They have hardwood flooring, two bedrooms, low assessment fees in vintage buildings. One of them has been fitted for forced heat and a/c. I would SO love to have central air conditioning! Neither of these buildings have in-unit laundry facilities.
David said I could see these at "my convenience". I wonder if that means I could see them this weekend? If he doesn't answer my email by late tomorrow morning, I'll call him to find out.
