Are you a yob? Take this test and find out!

It appears that I am not: You scored 13 You work hard and play hard, and manage to keep your anti-social behaviour in check most of the time.

I only know what a yob is, because of a report on NPR, in which it was discussed that the closing times for pubs in England could soon be moving from 11 pm (EARLY) to 2 or 4 am. Having been a tourist in London, I just have to say BRAVO! It sucks having to go home at 11 when you're on vacation!

Tony Blair, Drinky McDumbass's best friend, is against this change, and believes that extending pub hours would only serve to exacerbate "yob culture". I was offended af first, because I thought he was somehow against drinking. But that is simply because I didn't know what a "yob" is. So I did a simple google search and found this article which kinds of sums up the concept. The "yobs" it seems, are quite simply thugs.

I just want to know how they got the word "yob". It kind of reminds me of a word someone might use for "snot" or some other slime filled secretion. Yob isn't in my "New Oxford Dictionary", so it might be a relatively new word. Does anyone know anything about the origins of this word? Why did drunken louts need to get their own title?

Also, if you read this article, you'll see something I thought was kind of funny. I guess it was Mr. Blair's idea to fine drunken louts by giving them an "instant fine" - he wanted the police to march drunks off to the nearest ATM and withdraw the amount of the fine!
