What a day. I got to work on time for a change, but that is about all that went well. First off, logged on to my computer at work to discover that I had been found out! Our Internet security folks traced my computer activities to find out that I was blogging from work. I've been blocked from blogger.com!
Then I realize that a project I've been working on this week is completely wrong - it just doesn't work! I really thought I understood all of this Access crap, but some how, I guess I was wrong about that too. The people whose work depends on my answers to this particular issue were wonderfully nice about it, but it is still rather crusing to know that I haven't managed to figure this financial business out. I'm a good teacher? Why didn't I just get my Masters in Education and do that? Amazing how one can just go the wrong way in life, eh? Maybe I suck at this, but I am really working with some decent, fun people, and the benefits are great. Glass half full, half empty? Too much to think about on a Friday night.
I'm watching TV as I type this, and there is a commercial on for Staples, an office supply store. It features a man shopping with his two kids - well he's dancing actually, ahead of the kids, with the shopping wagon to the Christmas song "Most Wonderful Time of the Year". His kids are about 7 and 8, and the dad is happily putting things in the waggon - Post-It Notes, staplers, and a package of something like CD-Roms. You know, all the things that primary school students need to learn to do basic math and color in the lines. Whatever happened to crayons, protractors and paper?
When I got home, I got a phonecall from a friend who was supposed to visit me this upcoming week. She's been in town since Wednesday and just found it in her heart to call me tonight to let me know she was leaving early because she had to work. I'll admit, she's worked hard to get where she is, and the project she is working on sounds really important, and it obviously interests her. It is just disappointing that she won't be around, and upsetting that she waited so long to tell me.
Ok, enough gloom and doom. You came here to read the Friday Five, and here it is.
1. Do you have a car? If so, what kind of car is it? Nope.
2. Do you drive very often? I rent a car about three times a year to go to Wisconsin or run special errands.
3. What's your dream car? I'm not really big on cars. But if I did have one, it would have Perpendicusteer© as detailed in Bet's Blog from yesterday It would also be a cabriolet.
4. Have you ever received a ticket? MUST we go there? Yes I have. I have received several. I got one the very first time I took a drive alone. (I caused an accident). I got one for speeding in PA that was so expensive (in a construction zone) that I had to do the ez-payment plan. I had a couple of minor speeding tickets that I talked my way out of, a parking ticket (I got out of this one too, it was for parking in the guest lot at my mother's condo for a week at a time, when I still had New York plates.
5. Have you ever been in an accident? Yup. I caused one (see above). I was also in an accident in NYC with my brother-in-law, when we were stopped at a light during rush hour, and a truck wanted to make a left turn from the right hand lane, and did so, over the hood of our car. I was in a couple of accidents with other people, but nobody was ever hurt.
