Still Sublime, Even Without the Mandolin

Of all the times I've seen Squeeze or any of the band members' solo performances live, I have never heard them do Maidstone live.

Here's some proof at last that they do play it at least on occasion. Maybe they just don't like to play it in the mid-western US states.

I have seen Glenn do it live once, in Virginia, mostly because Craig brought his mandolin to a concert and shamed Glenn into doing it.

I'm surprised they did it on this recent tour, though. I had heard that that set list was pretty set, and they certainly didn't do it on the East Coast that I know about. The show I saw was pretty set with "Greatest Hits" only kind of stuff.

I went to You Tube to see where the video came from, and I also found this version:

I'm pretty sure this one is totally staged. The video seems to be in a loop, and this is the studio version of the song, complete with the murky "nooded" line. The live version from Liverpool is at least done live.

I just watched the link you posted Lily, and um.. gosh, that's a strange thing to do. The picture quality was better in the looped video, but perhaps the sound was bad.

I remember when Craig posted to the list about bringing his mandolin to a show. Neither Glenn nor Squeeze have been anywhere near Chicago in - I dare say three years. (Chris was here, big snooze show) If they do end up here though, I might have to rent a mandolin and try that myself!
