this is downright bizarre.
Zig and Zag were staples on UK TV from at least the early 1990s -- I remember them from when I lived there. They came from some morning show on Channel 4 I think [Big Breakfast. maybe?], as the mildly off color puppets not quite intended for actual small children, but not so offensive that the small kids absolutely had to be chased out of the room if they were on. I'm also pretty sure they used to turn up on the New Year's Eve programs, most likely Jools Holland's Hootenanny.
