Another conversation with Binky
Another conversation with Binky, my 14 year-old niece. My litte Binky, sweet, darling child. What the hell happened to her? Check out an excerpt from today's IM conversation. I swear I don't know her anymore, and I don't like who she's growing up to be. The problem is, who is teaching her to be this material? Her father wasn't raised this way. I just can't believe he is contributing to this:
Binky: oh yeah. i babysat yesterday. i made $65
Binky: but my mom took $50
Michelle: awesome!
Binky: not really!
Michelle: she didn't take it, I'm sure she put it in your savings
Binky: no .. i had to pay for expenses
Binky: for a present
Michelle: what expenses?
Binky: how lame
Binky: my ipod bill:-Binky: thats their job
Binky: those cheapstakes
Michelle: you had to pay for some of it?
Binky: yeah cause its $50 too much
Binky: :-Binky: phh
Binky: i only get $200 per hanukkah
Binky: im like: uh lame!
Michelle: Wow, you'd better be kidding about the "cheapskate" thing
Binky: but its better than paying $250:-Binky: dunno. i wish they would at least give me one present!
Binky: i mean im only getting one. and i have to pay for some of it
Binky: not cool
Michelle: so you don't appreciate it
Binky: yeah i do
Binky: i would preciate it more if i didnt hav eto pay for it
Michelle: you know, you sound very spoiled and rude right now. $200 is a lot of money. You should be happy that they paid for most of it. They didn't have to get you the iPod.
Binky: i know.
Binky: but thats why im me:-)
Michelle: $200 from your parents is very generous. And you know you get gifts from many other people. You won't be getting any sympathy from me, so suck it up.
Binky: i try.
Binky: lol
Binky: goddammit
Binky: i cant find my remote!>:o
Binky:GRRR
Binky: i cant findi t:-(
Binky: im gonna cryy
Binky: its like my bff <3
Binky: wahhhhh:-(
Michelle: oh well
Binky: now i have to get up to turn it off!
I must add that the child has a TV, stereo, and DVD player in her room. What she'll probably thought of doing was to call her younger brother, using her cell phone, and ask him to come in and change the channel.
Kids these days!

Aunties are for spoiling when needed and for putting people in their place also when needed.
Dang. I still don't have all those things in my room.
And for the iTunes bill, this is another joy in dial-up, It's a natural saving device. You just can't spend all that much if it takes 20 minutes or more to download a song.
Go to it, dishy one - do some auntly ass-kicking.
I don't know, maybe if parents would give kids a two week period where they just took EVERYTHING away from them, maybe they'd appreciate the tremendous bounty they live with on a daily basis.
